First Annual Grant Sweet Memorial Essay Contest Asks Students to Interview Veterans

Cromaine District Library, in conjunction with the Friends of Cromaine Library, the National Veterans Awareness Organization and the Hartland American Legion Post 415, recently announced a new essay contest open to Hartland area high school students.

The contest is in memory of the library's former building manager Grant Sweet.

Students' essays must be based on an interview with a veteran or active-duty solider, of any age. After the interview, those competing will write a 250-word essay on "What it means to serve your
country." The veteran can have served in any conflict, past or current,
or during peacetime.

Essays must be turned in to Cromaine District Library by Friday, May 13 at 6 p.m.

The following cash prizes and medals will be awarded: First Prize, $200; Second Prize, $100 and Third prize, $50.
