HARTLAND TOWNSHIP SEEKING COMMISSIONERS

Hartland Township Establishes a New Compensation Commission

The Hartland Township Board of Trustees is asking an independent commission of its residents to determine the rate of pay for local officials.

Established by state statute, the decision of the Compensation Commission will become effective without any vote of the Township Board. The Board may only reject the findings of the Commission by a two-thirds supermajority vote and cannot make its own adjustments.

The Commission will study the salary, stipends and per diems for elected officials on the Board of Trustees, as well as appointed members of the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Boards of Review.

The Board is currently seeking interested applicants to serve staggering five year terms on this body of five members. An application (attached) may be downloaded from the Township website (www.hartlandtwp.com) and are due by Monday, December 3.

The Commission will begin meeting in January or February of 2013 and will convene every other year thereafter.
