Despite Hartland wrestling's preseason concerns, the Eagles beat eight teams, including third-ranked Holt, at the 14th Annual Dragon Invitational on Saturday in Lake Orion.
Hartland placed 11 of its 14 wrestlers and finished with three champions: senior Ross Kantola at 125 pounds, senior Chase Snider at 145 and senior John Julien at 152.
After recording his 150th career win on Wednesday, Snider was "the most impressive wrestler of the day" according to coach Todd Cheney.
Snider finished with two pins, a tech fall and a 14-4 major decision over Denver McLaughlin of Monroe, a 2010 state qualifier.
Julien topped Derek Saunders of Monroe with a 5-2 decision, while Kantola needed overtime to beat Tyler Gibson of Holly.
Second-place finishers include: freshman Austin Eicher (112), senior Keith Boldt (119) and sophomore Mitchel Thomas (140). Third-place finishers include: junior Justin Charneski (171), junior Matt Ostermiller (189) and senior Nick Long (215). Freshman Nate Hughes finished fourth at 103, and junior Brian Braun matched that at 285.
"We wrestled great today," Cheney said. "Holt came in ranked No. 3 in the state, and Monroe, Lake Orion, Holly and Rochester Adams are tough as well. The key to us winning today was that we put 11 of our 14 guys in the top four. This team is wrestling way better than expected right now, and they are fun to coach because they work hard."
The Eagles travel to Flint Kearsley on Wednesday to take on Kearsley and Marlette at 5:30 p.m.
