Three Hartland Wrestlers Win Opening Matches in State Finals

Four lose, placing them in a bracket where third place is the best outcome.

The wrestling team has four wrestlers win and three lose during the opening round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association individual state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The tournament began Thursday morning and lasts through Saturday afternoon.

Here are the results for the Eagles for Thursday:

  • Austin Eicher (112 pounds) defeated Grandville’s Dakota Torralva by pin (2:36).
  • Keith Boldt (119) lost to Churchill’s Jacob Meadows by decision, 10-7.
  • Ross Kantola (125) lost to Howell’s Alex Calandrino by decision, 6-0.
  • Chase Snider (145) lost to Caledonia’s Chase Singleton by decision, 6-3.
  • John Julien (152) defeated Southfield’s Dan Wagner by pin (3:44).
  • Chad Hunt (160) lost to Southgate Anderson’s Caleb Wilson by decision, 1-1.
  • Justin Charneski (171) defeated Grand Haven’s Connor Moynihan by decision, 7-5.

The winners advance with a shot at the state title in their weight classes while the losers still can finish third in the tournament if they win the rest of their matches.
