Library in Hartland Planning Zombie Walk This October
Cromaine adding to Halloween events, including a paranormal investigator.
Zombies will moan, groan and stagger in the village area of Hartland this October.
Cromaine District Library is adding a zombie walk for the morning of Oct. 22 to its Halloween activities as a fundraiser for Gleaners food bank. In addition the to walk, the library will hold an event 7 p.m. Oct. 13 to teach people how to dress up like a zombie.
“We want to do something fun for holiday season," said Carol Taggart, the library's marketing manager. "And zombies are very popular right now in movies, TV and groups … It just sounded like something that would be fun to do. And our Halloween programs have been successful."
Organizers hope the walk will build on popular haunted tours last year that focused on telling Hartland's ghost stories. Those will again be held this year — the evening of Oct. 21 and in the afternoon and evening of Oct. 22. In addition, the library will bring in a paranormal investigator for an event Oct. 19.
Taggart said the idea for zombies was inspired by popular walks in Grand Rapids, which have attracted thousands in recent years. (See accompanying YouTube video).
"We’ll try it and see how it goes," Taggart said.

Huh. I don't understand why zombies are so popular these days - they are rather scary. Could someone help me understand the appeal of the zombie? :-)

Well, let me try to help you understand. All people can be scared by something, sometimes. Some people like to scare others and some people like to be scared by others. It is sort of a game that some people like to play. Like some games, there can be a group of spectators that also like to watch this game. If you want to throw a party or a spectacle for whatever reason, this is a good activity to consider. I hope I have helped you understand why zombies might be popular these days. :-)

Charlotte, you answered your own question! People love to be scared. Even if they know it's not real. That's Halloween's biggest draw.
This sounds like a riot! I can't wait!

There are a ton of great books that so many of these movies and tv shows are based on - The Walking Dead is a graphic novel for adults, and World War Z by Max Brooks will be a movie starring Brad Pitt next year. So we are hoping that there is enough interest in our community, and we can gather a LOT of food for Gleaners. Please join us! Saturday, October 22 at noon ~ we'll following the flashing light on the Gleaners wagon through the village!

I'm very excited about this. The only thing I don't understand is why it will be held in the morning.

Hi Emily - Take a look on Youtube, a ton of these walks are held during the day. Plus, since this is our first time, we really wanted to be able to see everyone!
