New Business Moves in to Village Location

Hartland Design and Resale opened its doors two months ago in downtown Hartland.

Opening up their new village storefront, on 3556 Avon St., Parshallville resident Teri Edgar says she and her husband, Bill, fell in love with their Main Street location and hardly looked anywhere else when deciding where to set up shop.

“We absolutely fell in love with this location for several reasons,” Edgar said. “But the biggest one was my kids go to school around here.”

Moving from the Fenton area three years ago, the mom of five says that being within walking distance of several schools, the library and , enjoys the fact that her kids are nearby while she is running the new business.

“They can walk down to the library, they have a park right there, 'cause their always with me,” she said. “We have just always loved this area.”

The new store is a combination of two family businesses of personalized gifts and a consignment store. Edgar has been selling a long list of personalized gift items since 2001 that includes mousepads, coffee cups and cellphone covers.

“All they have to do is bring in a photo and we can pretty much put it on anything,” she said.

The resale side of the shop was her husband’s idea, according to Edgar who says he has always enjoyed going to auctions looking for items for resale.

Edgar now joins her husband at the auctions, looking for those hidden treasures for her shop and laughingly admits that the competative atmosphere can get a little addicting.

“We have fun doing it together,” she said. “We go to auctions together and it’s just something fun that we can do together. We really enjoy it.”

Hartland Design and Resale has a 90-day consignment agreement and is currently accepting new items.

“We’re always taking in consignments and we’re hoping to get some bigger furniture in here,” she said. “We don’t do clothing knives or guns- pretty much anything else. We have saddles, racing suits, sporting goods, dishware.”

Business has been steady, according to Edgar, with one of the more popular areas in the shop being the tool and sporting goods section. Since their opening in February, there have also been many repeat customers and more coming in as they hear about the new store.

“It’s been mostly word of mouth and people are starting to come in and it’s been great,” she said. “So many people come in and say we’re so glad you’re here.”

Store hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m; Saturday 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Hartland Design and Resale will be open Memorial Day.
