New Sports Bar Coming to Hartland
Tags Sports Bar is set to open Sept. 10. in the former Grille 23 location.
After 20 years in the construction management business, Jeff Fischer of Brighton Township is starting a new career as the general manager of Tags Sports Bar, opening in the former Grille 23 location, on Sept. 10.
Creating a welcoming space for families, sports fans and food lovers, Fischer says he is excited to bring a sports bar to the area.
“It gives it (community) exactly what it doesn’t have- which it is a sports bar,” Fischer said. “The building and the atmosphere in here I think, will be tremendous.”
After Grille 23 closed several months ago, Fischer approached Chet Singh, owner of Striking Lanes which is connected to the restaurant, about plans for re-opening the space as a sports bar.
"At first, he (Singh) had somebody in mind and then they had seperate thoughts about running it," Fischer said. "So he contacted me and asked what I thought about running it for him."
With 10 TV’s surrounding the restaurant, Fisher says he hopes to provide a fun atmosphere on game days and says he enjoys being in a place filled with cheering fans. He also hopes to provide a local spot where people feel comfortable coming to on a regular basis.
“That local, warm feeling where you’re known by your name,” he said. “And whatever you drink is already sitting there by the time you sit down.”
A grand opening event will take place Sept. 15 and will include drink specials. The menu is a typical sports bar menu, according to Fischer and will include pizza, burgers, sandwiches and nachos in a price range of $7- $11.
Fisher is still looking to hire several staff positions including two bartenders and four wait staff. Contact Fischer during daytime hours at Tag’s to apply.
A banquet room will also be available to rent for large group parties or events.
Hours for Tags Sports bar will be Monday- Thursdays 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., Friday 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Saturday 12 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hey Jeff,
I saw the menu you are proposing, and it looks pretty weak. Nothing really stands out and peaks my interest. I do wish you luck, and hope you are successful.

Ouch ... Shouldn't we at least wait until he opens and actually visit before passing judgment?

I used to visit Grille 23 weekly for their trivia nights, and was very disappointed to see it close. I hope Tags is able to succeed.
Out of curiosity, what is the origin of the name?

Hi,
I'm one of the new bartenders. If you want to make suggestions for the menu, that's fine. Please bring your suggestions - we want to make everyone happy. Put your suggestion in writing, hand it to me, and I will pass it to Jeff.
Popcorn...Trivia...I will talk to Jeff today about those....Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming.
Food...I've had the Nachos and the Chicken Tenders basket so far....wow! I loved both, would order if I was just a customer. And this is from a royal food snob. To me- the prices are quite in line with everyone else...Think about it, chicken tenders and fries at a fast food place would be what (sorry, not much of a fast food person)...$6.99 for a basket of tenders, fries, coleslaw....
