My dog's name is Pedro. He's a rescue, and has been a part of the family for over 13 years. He's a distinguished older gentleman, but still enjoys pulling the innards out of his stuffed toys and playing with our cats.

My dog's name is Sammy. He's also a rescue and has been part of my home about 6-7 months. He also enjoys pulling the innards out of his stuffed toys and long walks on the beach... or any place that will have him.

Footloose and Toast. Footloose as he is a most active 1 year old Black English Lab and Toast as he is a golden retriever the color of toast.

Rescued a Pug named Eddie in '02, then fostered another Pug named Bella in '04 which led to adoption. I mention the years because I don't want people thinking I named them after the "Twilight" characters. Pure coincidence, I swear!

In late 2010 I married into a family with a Beagle, Abby.

I ones had a Muffin she was a Yorkie. Also had a Buffy who was a Maltise. You could not find a smarter dog then our Buffy.

Zeus - a 20 lb Westie. He acts like he is as big as his name is!

My dog's name was Casey. I got her from a friend who had to give her up 13 years ago when she was a years old. I changed the spelling of her name from KC, because I didn't think it was really a "name." She just passed away on New Years Day and I miss her very much. She was a beautiful Golden Retriever and her image is my current profile picture.

Our boy is named Sloan which means "warrior". The prefect name for a 10 pound Shih Tzu fur ball!

We found Rosey in our back yard 8 years ago and loved her until she passed away last summer. Now we've rescued Jack from the Allen Park Humane Society and he's a real sweetheart.

We named our dog "Sonny" He is a beautiful Weimaraner.After our two sons moved out of the house we thought we needed another "SON" Sonny moved in right before Christmas 2010.

Maggie, my 4-1/2 year old Bernese Mtn. Dog, was named after the mother of a high school classmate. She looks beautiful this morning after being groomed by Stacey at Goodison Vet which is also her favorite place for medical care and, if necessary, boarding.

My dog is a rescued beagle. His name is scamp!

My lovely lap dog, a 55 pound lab, is named Phoenix P. Hollis. "P" is for princess. And also have a boxer mix with the name of Lilyana, which we usually call Lilyhammer, as her step is not graceful at all, and when she steps on you it is like a hundred pounds being pounded on you.

My little babycakes is Pearl, a staffordshire terrier, and she'll be a year old in the spring.

Our beloved rescue dog, a shepherd mix was Gus. Kept all the moles at bay. Our Golden Retriever is Maize.

Lola and Lily are my two beautiful German Shepherds....I have had other shepherds and they were Heidi, Klaus, HB (honey bunny) and Wolfie. Klausie was probably the most unusual shepherd in that he was a steel gray in color and he was very, very smart.

A 7-year-old Airedale terrier name "Our Lady Amazing Grace" or "Grace" for short.

We have a "TURBO" and anyone who knows this Chocolate Lab knows why! He's a much loved member of the Family.

My dogs names are: Cora, Cayenne (like the Porsche), and Bear. Two were already named when I adopted and just kept the names. Since Cayenne was 9 weeks I named her. Grand dogs are Izzie and Diesel.

I have two rescues right now, Toby a Chow/Retriever Mix, and Lexi, breed is unknown. I just lost my beautiful friend Trouble. My next pup will most likely be named Macki, after our wonderful Mackinac Island.

My boys are named Harwell James and Sweeney Gene. They're both rescues; Harwell we rescued from an over-the-garage apartment in Hamtramck when he was a puppy 7 years ago and Sweeney we adopted from the Michigan Pug Rescue 6 years ago when he was 4. We rescued our, now 10yr old, chocolate lab when I was in the middle of chemo treatments, her name is Ginger and she does not leave my side either!! Love love love her!!

My present WAG Animal Rescue is Ava Gardner. Before her, now in doggie heaven, was
Greta Garbo, also a rescue from WAG. I sense some sort of a trend here ... with my dogs
and my cats.

My dog's name is:CenterRidge Farms Gunner's Chance to Hunt or just plain old Gunner!! Gunner is a very active 2 year old Brittany Spaniel who loves to play AirKong! He never tires of kong and therefore I am always exhausted! Hopefully he will be put out for stud soon and I can change his focus!!! (NOT!)

My pound pups are Rip and Reba. Rip is a clown of Charlie Chaplin calibre and is possibly an english setter mix, but who knows. Reba looks like a rough-coated, long-haired rottweiler and I was told she was a rottweiler/giant schnauzer...which is why i refer to her as a schnottweiler :) She is an immovable beast and through puppy hood (which lasted 2 years) she ate the entire interior of my Volvo. Seats, dash, carpet, seatbelts, knobs, buttons and handles.

Her name is Elly May whichi is short for Eleanor Mary. She is a 4 year old Jack Russell Terrrier and has not been spade. Would like to find another Jack of same colorings, stature and texture which is brown & white, short legs, small frame and smooth haired. metp@verizon.net

My rescue is Katie. She is a loving Shepard/Collie mix. Have had her for 7 years. Previously had a Cinder, Chelsea, Mandy, Hooker, Gypsie, Buffy, Corkey and Dagwood that have all gone to dog heaven. Dagwood was really my parents dog but I remember her.

I have 2 ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. THE BEST dogs in the world. :) Their names are Scarlet and Sassy.

We currently have a rescue named Nevie-a terrier mix and Duffy (
formerly Champion Kintyres Merrymaker) a Scottish Terrier - we have had over 30+ years Scraps, Scooter, Tam-O-Shanter, Angus, Tinkerbell, we had a Roscoe (jack russell) for a matter of weeks but he had some mental problems and had to go! All our dogs have been rescues of one sort or another. Can't imagine being without furkids.

We have/had 3 rescue dogs. A fantastic dog that we will miss dearly....

Payton, she's a Collie/Shepard mix we rescued from the Detroit Animal Control about 8 years ago. She's my shadow, if I move from one side of a room to the other she does also. We also have two cats both rescues, one is featured on Animal Cops Detroit if you watch she came from the house with 247 cats, we are in the Most Unforgettable Cases episode.

Our 12 year old shar pei/whippet rescue is Tess and her 2 offspring (mixed with golden retriever) are named Tucker and Sophie. The newest addition is Lana - a 90# golden puppy.

Our rescue dog is Mason. His original name was Dixon, not the greatest. Now when he misbehaves, we call him Mason-Dixon. He is a Cavachon, a mix of a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. We can't walk in the door without rubbing his belly.

I think it is great that we get so excited and happy to share something as simple as our dog's name with others--it shows the place they have in our lives and in our hearts-

I am touched by how many wonderful neighbors I had that I didn't know about. People that know to rescue KNOW you should NOT buy from pet stores. Puppy Mills are the worst cruelty. The stores all tell you they are from good breeders - but they are stretching the definitions big time there.
Also - I just found CARE.COM for pet sitting, baby sitting, tutoring and other types of help. You can put yourself on there to give help or to get help. Check it out if you want to do either - it is pretty cool.

I think this blog just may have set a record for the Patch-everything written is good, and is positive. How nice to take a breath, read and smile -after all, it's about dogs.

Her name is Mindy, a name she had the five years she lived in a shelter. I didn't think it was right to change it. She's a gem!

Oreo- a.k.a Grumpy old man- 11 year old Shit-Zhu, Tinkerbell a 4 year old Schboodle with beautiful long eyelashes, Bella(Twighlight) 8 month old Daschund- our little Weiner Schnittzle..

My dogs name is Robbie. He's from the Auburn Heights shelter as have been all of our other dogs through the years. He is 72 pounds of energy and joy. I just now decided to teach him to dance since his daily walk just doesn't seem to be enough exercise for him. In just a few minutes, he learned two dance steps ---- better than most dance partners I ever had! Of course, the treats might have had something to do with it!

My Sheltie "Chance" was found online at www.petfinder.com as he was abandon at a motel in Kentucky. He was rescued by Precious Secrets Sheltie Rescue in Cincinnati Ohio. He acts just like Dug in the movie UP! His name reflects his second chance finding his forever home with me. He is one great dog! He is pictured here sitting in my backyard with that special sheltie smile!

We have Roxy, a 6 lb black Schnorkie (schnauzer/yorkie). Very cute!

My last dog was Sadie, A sweet and beautiful chow, lab Shetland Sheepdog mix who was most loveable. When I don't have to work I plan to get another grand dog to go with my cats. I am grateful to so many who have rescued animals from shelters/rescues and other places. Remember, there are some of the best animals in cages and rescues today waiting for someone to come and fall in love and take them home forever. - check Petfinder.com. Also, don't forget to check at the Local Wyandotte Animals Shelter, WAG rescue and PAWS of Michigan. Some grand dogs and cats there waiting for a forever home.

Other local shelters are Michigan Animal Rescue League and Oakland County Animal Shelter on Brown Rd., Michigan Humane Society and there are so may more.
All of our dogs came from calls either from the vets treating them for the shelters, or the from the shelters direct-we take only those cases that no one wants-we are one of the "last ditch efforts" and it has been worth every dollar we spent and every tear we shed--these "abused/abandoned disposal discards" gave back to us a hundred fold-I wish they could all be here today--God Bless everyone of you that helped a dog find love and shelter in your home, your lives and your heart.

My family has a Charlie! He's a beagle that we adopted in 2008 from the awesome people at Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption... they gave him the name, and we kept it!

As per above, we have a sheltie, "McKinley". We just applied to foster dogs for "Waggin Tails Dog Rescue" in Northville. Can't wait!

My Dog's name is Maggie (we kept her name since it was already her name since she was a puppy DOB 2006 )and she was rescued from the lovely folks at Wyandotte Animal Control in 2008. She was adopted on Mothers' Day that year after we adopted a Senior Sweetheart we named Kara (also from Wyandotte Animal Control) 2 weeks before Maggie. Kara passed away in Oct. 2010 but she was a very wonderful girl and I would not trade those two and a half yrs for any thing! Maggie was a lot of work as she had been abused before she made it to the pound but the volunteers kept up positive reinforcement and she passed her training, Now she is a happy, well adjusted girl that our human son refers to as his "sister" ;) Kara was a red lab/ chow mix and Maggie is a Yellow lab/ greyhound/ collie mix:)

Our 8 year old puppy is Rocket, named by the Breeder because he shot out like one. Even at this advanced age, our Standard Poodle LOVES to run, leap across open fields and chase bunnies and squirrels; he never catches any, but the exercise certainly keeps him fit.

I can't believe there wasn't one Marley!!!! But we named our Labrador after Bob--and long before the book and movie.

We have three dogs in our house. Bella (tree walker coonhound) and Max (short for Maximus! pointer/hound mix) are rescue dogs who have been in our family for five years or so. Jackson (who I call Buddy! rottweiler) is my brother and sister-in-law's dog. Bella's name was Stella before we adopted her, but she's so beautiful, we had to change it!

Our rescue dog came with the name "Marley" and having seen the movie and being big Bob Marley fans we kept the name.....and the dog has lived up to the movie character, mischievous and lovable!

We inherited our dog, Mellifluous Melfi, a black standard poodle who was an agility champion prior to her owner's death. Melfi was named after the psychiatrist on "The Sopranos" and has her own YouTube channel. As we are non-agility types, she is more or less retired now and seems to enjoy it. At least she'll always have her ribbons and videos to look back on in her old age!

We have Bubbles and Flower. Both named by 4 yr olds. Bubbles is a black lab mix boy and Flower is a rat terrier girl.

I have a male Redbone Coonhound his name is Dexter. I love the name Dexter because it came from a movie and its a strong name for a male dog. My family had a male Bloodhound named Tex witch is a strong name for a male dog to. I LOVE HOUNDS THEY ARE THE BEST BREED OF DOG EVER. LOL

I have a Ozzy "No More Tears" Ozzdog who is a Lab/Chow/Pit Bull mix and is the light of my life! We rescued him from the Genesee County Animal Control and nursed him back to health.
I have also been blessed to have owned (and been owned by) a; Knuckles, AJ, and Laika previously. :)

I'm coming to this article a little on the late side but what the heck - we have a black and white Springer Spaniel named Nellie. We got the name from "Little House on the Prairie." I,luckily, have a daughter named Laura!

I'm amazed to see two dogs named Pearl on here. This is the name the kids and I wanted to use but the breeder said she prefers her dogs to have two syllable names. I'm not so sure I should have listened to her........

I am the owner of a Chow Chow named Miko, she is 7 years old now. I also adopted a Chow/Sharpei and named her Shiva. They are guard dogs, do great with my kids, dislike strangers and squirrels, and are the laziest dogs I have ever met.
