Village Elementary Helps Out Mama Duck

Journey through school is full of quackiness.

Known as "Mama Duck," she and her 10 ducklings journey from a courtyard to a marsh behind the school thanks to a group of mostly staff members at Village Elementary School who sealed off the hallways to guide them. Had they waited too long, the family might have not survived.

Children and adults watch Mama Duck and her 10 ducklings, but unfortunately rain prevented her from wanting to leave a courtyard as planned Wednesday. The duck and her brood passed through on Thursday.

Odette Park, a paraprofessional at Village Elementary School, helps Ruth Darrah, a retired teacher who still substitute teaches at the school, set up a paper barrier Thursday designed to guide Mama Duck and her 10 ducklings from an interior courtyard to the marsh behind the school. Darrah has helped the duck several times over the past several years.
