Weekend Planner: 'White Christmas', 'Birdie Day', Parent Night Out and the Arts

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

 

1. 'WHITE CHRISTMAS'

Where: Howell High School Freshman Campus, 1400 W Grand River Ave, Howell

When: 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20

Cost: Tickets are $16 for adults; $14 for seniors over 60/students/children in advance; they are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors over 60/students/children at the door. Buy advance tickets through the box office by calling 517-545-1290 or online (ticket outlets).

Why go: See this classic musical to support local youth theater and get into the holiday spirit!

2. ART SHOW AT VILLAGE MANOR

Where: Village Manor Retirement, 9501 E Highland Rd, in Hartland (Howell mailing)

When: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Cost: Free

Why go: See the work of local artist Thelma Mitchell

3. 'BIRDIE DAY' GATHERS TURKEYS FOR THOSE IN NEED

Where: The Majestic at Lake Walden and Hartland Glen Golf Course; or click here for a complete listing of participating courses in nearby communities and their contact information.

When: Call for your tee time, which will be sometime Sunday, Nov. 20 at Hartland Glen Golf Course (248-887-3777); The Majestic at Lake Walden tee times are full. A benefit turkey dinner is planned from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Majestic.

Cost: Golfers should bring either a frozen turkey that's 15 pounds or larger or $25. For those just coming for the benefit dinner, a suggested donation for dinner is $10. Proceeds will aid a local family in need.

Why go: Get that last golf game in before the Thanksgiving holiday and help others at the same time.

4. 'JUMPING THROUGH THE LENS'

Where: The Opera House, 123 W. Grand River Ave., Howell

When: doors open at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19; performance is at 8 p.m.

Cost: $5 at the door

Why go: This photography, graphic design and dance exhibit hosted by Michigan Dance Project includes informal showing of excerpts from "Soul Mates." Delicious snacks, refreshments and great music are featured. In addition, a portion of all admissions, art and merchandise sales will be donated.

5. PARENTS GET NIGHT OUT

Where: Hartland Gymnastics, 9525 E. Highland Road, Hartland (Howell mailing)

When: 7:30-11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18

Cost:  $15 per child, but additional siblings receive a $3 discount; signed waiver required for activities

Why go:  Kids get open gym on all the gymnastic equipment, a snack, and a movie; parents receive much-needed alone and/or shopping time without the kids along.
