Two Girls on the Run groups from Hartland joined 1,800 girls from across metro Detroit in a Nov. 20 run that ended on the 50-yard line at Eastern Michigan University's Rynearson Stadium. "It was amazing," said Coach Krista Zvoch. "All our girls finished and that is the goal. No one takes time for this run. The goal is to finish, whether you are running, hopping, skipping or jumping across the finish line — it doesn't matter, just as long as you finish." Preparing for the 5K run is one of the main goals during the 10-program where girls from ages 8-14 meet twice weekly for 60-90 minutes. …
We live near the General Motors Proving Grounds. Every year when the leaves turn colors, we take our annual trip up Tipsico Lake Road from M-59 to White Lake Road stopping off at the Heavenly Scent Herb Farm to shop and have a free complimentary tea. As you leave the subdivisions on Tipsico Lake and get on the dirt part, it becomes very remote and the colors are out of sight. The spot in the photo is my favorite and I look forward to seeing it and the rest of the road each fall. Kathy and I are in charge of the Milford Fourth of July Parade each year (10 years coming up). We love Milford, …
Shimmering greens and reds from an unexpected show of Northern Lights wowed several Hartland area residents Monday night. "It was very faint, but I've never seen them before — spectacular," said Linda Bowen, the first to post about them on Hartland Patch's Facebook site. Amateur photographer Michael Rosinski posted four photographs from his property after it began to recede and was less visible to the naked eye, but he still was able to capture the colors by using longer exposures. "I could see it with my eyes only, but just barely at 9:45 p.m. I guess 9:15 p.m. or slightly earlier was peak …
Oooooo, Vampire Elmo — that's scary … Or maybe just fun. So, OK, we're not exactly the people who go overboard for Halloween decorations, but we do get in the holiday spirit. At Hartland Patch, we'd like to feature any photos you have of your Halloween decorations. If you have any you can add them here or you can email me at chris.machniak@patch.com and I'll repost this feature or a new one to showcase your hauntings for all to see. Please include who is in the photo (if appropriate) where the photo or photos were taken and when. Not sure how to upload pictures on our site? Read these …

Yep, I am taking a few days off right now — and Tatum Ryan is filling in for me — but whenever you go anywhere and have some vacation shots you'd like to share, Hartland Patch would be happy to showcase your shots for all to see. Mine here are scenic shots of a recent short trip to Mackinac Island only days before the tourist season ends, but feel free to include any of your family if you'd like. You can email me at chris.machniak@patch.com. Please include who is in the photo (if appropriate) where the photo or photos were taken and when. In addition, if you have any of Mackinac Island — of …
Joe Kleiner of Hartland submitted a set of photos “The Swale at Waldenwoods” that he took using a Canon S2 IS at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at Waldenwoods Resort & Conference Center. Kleiner's is the latest of fall color pictures submitted to Hartland Patch. Three more were uploaded — from Russell Rheaume and rose clark — with my own shots from Sunday. I've also included two of those here. We'd welcome more here or email me and I'll feature separately. Please include who is in the photo (if appropriate) where the photo was taken and when. Not sure how to upload pictures on our site? Read these…
It seemed like it happened overnight, didn't it? This past week my family and I took noticed one tree-lined street quickly go from mostly green to an assortment of colors despite all our warm weather. In my own subdivision, Autumn Woods (aptly named for this time of year), that change also was quickly evident as I include two shots from here. And, we're likley to see an extended show because of all that rain earlier in the year, according to a Detroit Free Press article. Have any fall color photos you'd like to share? Feel free to add them here or email me and I'll feature seperately. Please …
We always look every fall for the change of color in the leaves. On Sunday, I was happy to see this partial rainbow disppear into the clouds above as the sun set. Have any more traditional fall color photos you'd like to share? Feel free to add them here or email me and I'll feature seperately. Please include who is in the photo (if appropriate) where the photo was taken and when. Not sure how to upload pictures on our site? Read these instructions.

Despite the cold, wind and rain, Hartland's homecoming warmed many hearts, provided plenty of fun and created many memories. Please feel free to click below and add your own photos from the big day. Not sure how? Read these instructions.
We've lived in Hartland for more than six years, but we never had been to Spicer Orchards Farm Market and Cider Mill as a family. Sunday, we went to explore and ended up enjoying hot dogs, a hayride and picking out a pumpkin. We were just one of dozens of families venturing about the sprawling facility on a warm early fall Sunday afternoon. I thought I'd share a couple of shots of our time there, and since this article was posted two have arrived from Jackie Romzek. Thanks! If anyone else would like to add, feel free to upload any fall-time photo here. Don't know how to upload a photo? We …
