5 Things to Know About in Hartland Schools

Here are five "Did You Know" facts about Hartland Schools.

Here are five things happening in Hartland Schools. For more information, visit the Hartland Schools website.

1. The Hartland Middle School has a faculty book club called the TAPER group. TAPER stands for “Teachers As Professional Education Readers." The goal of these TAPER discussions is to develop “individual expertness and foster the development of shared knowledge among members of the group.”

2. Lakes Elementary PE teacher, Matt Conway, is challenging students (K-4) to live a more active lifestyle, with his “Do it at Home” PE Fitness Calendar. The goal is to encourage students to choose one (or more) of 99 suggested aerobic, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility fun activities to do at home each day for at least 30 minutes. Combined with recess time at school, this promotes the concept of getting out to “play” for 60 minutes every day.

3. Hartland student Brett Furge built a paver patio in the Village Elementary courtyard as his Eagle Scout project, making the courtyard accessible to an entire class at a time.

4. All grade levels at Round Elementary are piloting Common Core Math Units this year. The District Math Project Committee has been working hard developing a new math curriculum that is transforming what we teach into a more critical thinking and deeper meaning curriculum for our students.

5. The October issue of Community Life celebrated its 80th anniversary. Congratulations to Editor Nadine Cloutier for the countless hours she spends putting together this vital news source for the Hartland Community.
