Hours: Seasonal, flexible schedule depending on activities but generally Monday - Friday 2:30-6 p.m., when school is in session (September – June) some weekends and later evenings required.

GENERAL PURPOSE  

 

Plans, organizes and coordinates a community recreation program for teens including cultural arts, physical activities, health activities, human services, and special interest classes and programs. Supervise teen members and all aspects of programs.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

           

 Works under the immediate supervision of the HERO administrator and general supervision of the HERO board of directors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Plans, organizes and coordinates the development and implementation of community recreation and human service programs for teens.

 

Plan, organize, coordinate and assist with special events and activities such as fundraisers, Relay for Life, etc.

 

Organizes and supervises classes, workshops and activities for teens engaged in recreation programs and co‑sponsored programs.

 

Surveys leisure interests and needs of teens. Selects, plans and implements cultural arts, physical activities and special interest leisure and fitness activities for teens.

 

Promotes the center and its programs through a variety of media including calendars, letters, posters, and related communications. 

 

Coordinates schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel and records and tracks attendance of students.

 

Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, set up tables and chairs for classes, etc.

 

Specific duties include developing a monthly calendar of events. Supervise Teen Center and Trips, promote and expand the teen center, clean Teen Center after use.  Attend staff meetings and any other meetings as required. Perform other needed duties as assigned by the director.

 

Promotes interest and provides information regarding teen programs to community leaders, recreation officials, community service groups, schools, other departments, and the general public.

 

Maintain the website and Facebook account for the “Next Door” Teen Center under current policy and guidelines.

 

Make timely deposits of revenues collected from activities and concession sales at the Teen Center.

 

Complete post evaluations of activities in a timely manner.

 

Develop permission slips for trips and special events.

 

Ensure proper paperwork is completed in a timely manner for all trips and special events (permission slips, contracts, transportation, incident reports, etc.).

 

 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience:

 

(A) Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a degree in recreation, social work, education or a closely related field.

            (B) One year recreation experience; or

            (C) An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

            Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

(A) Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration;

(B) Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive teen program;

            (C) Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in teen programs.

(D) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public;

(E) Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

(F) Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one. First Aid and CPR certification.

Personal computer, including word processing and data base software; calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; mobile or portable radio; automobile.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when in the field.
