Big News Around You: GOP Dinner, Hartland Administrator Headlines, Ice Rink Debate

Top headline stories from around Hartland this week.

1. GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and Ann Romney, wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, spoke in Novi Thursday night. A topic at the Oakland County Republicans Lincoln Day Dinner, held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, was the role Michigan will play in the 2012 elections.

2. The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus has reported Hartland schools administrator Tracey Sahouri filed a lawsuit against Argentine Township and a township police officer, regarding an earlier underage drinking case against her that was dismissed. Argentine Township, on the other hand, says Sahouri’s allegations against it are not true.

3. Many parents and other community members attended the Monday Hartland Consolidated Schools board meeting to support administrator Tracey Sahouri. School officials announced Sahouri, a Hartland High School assistant principal, could be placed as a classroom teacher beginning with the 2012-13 school year. It depends on a future Board of Education vote, Hartland Patch reported Tuesday. School officials referred to investigations by Superintendent Janet Sifferman and the Michigan Department of Education, of charges that Sahouri, the former Creekside Elementary principal, improperly administered the MEAP test.

4. Fenton Patch reports that a neighborhood debate about an ice rink in a yard in Andover Woods subdivision, Fenton, has hit the radio airwaves. Resident John Jones defends his skating rink, while neighbor Bob Campbell says he wouldn’t mind if the rink was in Jones’ back yard. The issue made its way to 97.1 The Ticket sports radio on Wednesday afternoon.

5. The Hartland varsity wrestling team is headed to the team state meet at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek next weekend. Go, Eagles!
