Happy Monday- the start of another week. Here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

It will be breezy and mostly sunny today, with a high near 58, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts coming in from the west will increase throughout the day with some getting as high as 32 mph.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • Shell: $3.59
  • : $3.49
  • : $3.59 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.32 at Citgo.
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.40 at — Marathon at 1375 N LeRoy and Glenwood.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.40 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.

3. Applications being accepted for safe driving program aimed at teen drivers

Schools in Livingston County have a chance to be part of a traffic program aimed at reducing traffic fatalities in teens, according to an article from WHMI. Strive for A Safer Drive, which provides funding and resources to help teens talk to teens about safe driving, has teamed up with Ford, AAA and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning. The top 50 schools that apply will receive $2,000 to implement peer-to-peer programs for three months.

4. Semi-annual open house for Citizens Speaks Toastmasters

A group designed to help people enhance their public speaking skills, Citizens Speaks Toastmasters #9114 of Howell is having its semi-annual open house from noon-1 pm at 645 W Grand River Ave in Howell. For more information, contact President April Gasbarre at april.gasbarre@gmail.com.

5. Hartland Trivia

Congrats to Linda Bowen who answered Friday's question. What Hartland sports team has already won three big competitions this fall? Answer: cross country. 

Monday's question: In honor of Cromaine Library's upcoming Haunted Hartland tours this weekend, Ceci Marlow, the Cromaine Director confirmed that a 2006 investigation of paranormal activity detected a strong presence at three Hartland locations. Where are they? Please answer in comments.
