Good Morning Hartland

Check out the weather, fuel prices and more for Oct. 14, 2011.

It's Friday. TGIF. Here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

More rain mostly before 2 p.m. with a high near 56, according to the National Weather Service. It'll be breezy with a west wind between 16 and 21 miles per hour. Tonight, scattered showers (50 percent chance) with a low of around 42 with winds between 18-21 mph and gusts as high as 29 mph.

On Saturday, expect winds will increase under party sunny skies with a high near 53. Breezes will be between 22 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Saturday night, partly cloudy with a low of 43. A chance of rain returns after 2 a.m. (20 percent).

On Sunday, winds diminish as a chance of rain increases (50 percent) otherwise mostly cloudy with a high near 55. Sunday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 41.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • Shell: $3.49
  • : $3.55
  • : $3.65 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.32 at Citgo.
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.47 at two stations — a Clark at N LeRoy and Third and a Marathon at Silver Lake and Lincoln.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.42 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.

4. Constitution essay contest offers scholarships

RetakeOurGov, a Hartland-based Tea Party group, and the Americans for Prosperity Foundation are holding an essay contest focused on the U.S. Constitution for Livingston County high school seniors.

Top prize is $1,500 and the deadline signing up is Oct. 31.
