Hartland Walgreens Supports Big Red Barrel Program

The Big Red Barrel program will be available at the Hartland Walgreens for a limited time starting Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 20 p.m.

The Big Red Barrel program is making it easier for residents of Livingston County to drop off unwanted prescription drugs in a safe way.

With seven permanent locations already set up at local police headquarters, the Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA) has partnered with Walgreens to provide even more locations and easier access to drop off points.

According to a press release, Walgreens has agreed to sponsor the Big Red Barrel program for the next four months, rotating them between four store locations within Livingston County.

“We have collected over 30 pounds of pills at the Howell Walgreens last month, this puts us at over 900 pounds of pills collected since we started the program in April 2011," LCCA Chair Joe Carney said in the press release. "Walgreens was so satisfied with the results they wanted to help expand the program."

The Hartland Walgreens store, located at 10081 E. Highland Rd., will host the Big Red Barrel on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting August 17.
