Holly Township Woman Dies in Fire, Lapeer Man Buys $337 Million Lottery Winner

There was a lot of news around Hartland this week.

Here is a list of the top five most interesting stories from the Hartland area this week.

1. On Friday, the Michigan Lottery announced Don Lawson as the owner of the winning $337 million Powerball ticket, sold at the Odish Family Market and Sunoco gas station in northern Lapeer, the Flint Journal said. It's the biggest prize given out in Michigan Lottery history, and Lawson selected the cash option of $224 million.

2. A 72-year-old Holly Township woman died after her two-story farmhouse caught fire, according to the Tri-County Times.

3. A Pinckney man barricaded himself inside his garage to avoid a court order, according to WHMI. Police tried to serve the 52-year-old man with a court order at about 6:30 Friday night.


4. On Tuesday, reported that AAA officials predicted Tropical Storm Isaac -- soon expected to become Hurricane Isaac -- would increase gas prices in Michigan by 25 cents per gallon next week. Gas prices had increased to $4.04 per gallon in Fenton on Friday morning, Mapquest said.

5. On Monday, the Flint Journal had stories about last Saturday's Crim Festival of Races, with information on the winners, participants and the event. Fenton Patch readers who went to the Crim told about their experiences on our Facebook page.
