Safe Kids Teaches Hartland How to Buckle Up the Kids

Safe Kids Huron Valley's certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will host a free child car seat inspection.

Safe Kids Huron Valley, a non-profit organization working to prevent unintentional injuries to children, is working hard to ensure kids are safely buckled up – every trip, every time. Throughout the year, the organization hosts free child passenger car seat checkup events to inform parents and caregivers on how to properly install their child’s safety seat in their vehicle.

On Saturday, April 14, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Safe Kids Huron Valley’s certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will host a free child car seat inspection for parents and caregivers at LaFontaine Nissan, 2530 E. Highland Road, Highland. The event is open to everyone, and no appointments are needed.  Car seat inspections will be done on a first come, first served basis.

Nationally, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children ages 3 to 14. What’s alarming is that many of these children were not wearing a seatbelt or were not restrained properly in a child safety seat.

“What we’ve found is that injuries to children can be avoided if parents and caregivers are informed or reminded of some very important and easy steps to keep their children safe in the vehicle,” said Jennifer Shea, Safe Kids Huron Valley Coalition. “In just a few minutes, our certified technicians can help parents and caregivers, ranging from those with new babies to longtime parents, get the peace of mind that comes from knowing how to properly remove and reinstall child safety and booster seats for children of all ages.”
