New Hartland Memorial Dedication to Take Place Monday

A new monument which represents all veterans will be dedicated during Memorial Day events at the Hartland Cemetery.

A new memorial honoring Hartland veterans was recently installed in the Hartland Cemetery, thanks to the efforts of members of the American Legion Post 415.

It was a three year project with a collaborative effort of local veterans and community members that helped bring the project to completion, according to Post Commander Doug Kuhn, which resulted in the triangle-shaped monument that was designed to represent all veterans.

"For Memorial Day of 2013 we can all take pride in a beautiful tribute to our veterans which will withstand the test of time," Committee Chairman and Legion member Stan Cook wrote in an email.

According to Cook, the concrete work reflects the military conflicts from World War I forward, while the left side symbolizes World War I with a doughboy graphic.

The front surface symbolizes Word War II with a KillRoy graphic and the right side acknowledges each branch of service with a bronze medallion.

  • Steve Baker of Baker Decorative Concrete
  • Tom Parshall and Mr. Rich Owens of I.M.C. LLC

"We could never thank these folks enough," Cook said. "I would also like to thank our Post Commander Doug Kuhn for picking up the lead on the project when a health issue made me back off."

A Memorial Day dedication ceremony has been scheduled to take place on Monday at 11 a.m at the Hartland Cemetery and the public welcome to attend.
