Heritage Days Scarecrow Contest

A scarecrow contest is all part of the fun of the Heritage Day 2011 celebration.

The primary purposes of the Hartland Area Scarecrow Contest is to increase community awareness of the annual Heritage Day event, introduce the community to new and overlooked businesses in the area, showcase our many
talented and creative builders, and discover a craft—creating scarecrows—that is an important part of our agriculture heritage.

Have a great time dressing, stuffing and positioning your scarecrow to reflect your interests and to attract new customers or members to your business or organization.

Create a scarecrow out of whatever materials, in whatever fashion desired, and display it at a retail or other business in the Hartland area.

People’s Choice Awards (certificates) for most interesting, most historic, and most colorful three scarecrows will be given on Heritage Day, Saturday, Sept. 17, announced around noon as part of the day’s activities.

All Chamber of Commerce members, community nonprofits, school groups, churches, retail and other businesses have been invited to create a scarecrow for
display at their business.

Community nonprofits without a location (e.g., Boy Scouts) should ask retail businesses to permit the group to create and display their scarecrows.

Scarecrows are to be prepared by September 10 and displayed for the community at your site from September 10 through September 16.

While should have registered your scarecrow on or before Sept. 2by emailing Ceci Marlow at cmarlow@cromaine.org or the chamber at info@hartlandchamber.org, it's not too late to take part in the fun. Vote for your favorite!

People’s Choice ballots can be downloaded from the Hartland Area Community Council and Hartland Area Chamber of Commerce web sites beginning September 7.

Votes must be turned in by the morning of Heritage Day and can be turned in at the Cromaine District Library or Hartland Chamber of Commerce offices, e-mailed to
info@hartlandchamber.org or to cmarlow@cromaine.org.

We’ll see Hartland Area Scarecrows throughout the area—in front of big box stores, medical/dental offices, schools, and churches.

Your group will certainly want to be sure that all members vote for your scarecrow—and get others to vote, too!
