Healthy tips for getting outside work done

Here are some tips to help you get outside and get your house ready for spring and summer, without hurting yourself.

As spring comes in, more and more people are going outside.  There is a lot of cleaning to do and prep work for our gardens and landscaping.  If you haven’t moved very much this past winter, this could be a shock to your system.  You may be doing things, your body just isn’t ready for.

Here are some tips on how to get things done without hurting yourself…

  • Make a plan:  figure out what you need to do and set a realistic time period to complete it (please allow for nature to interrupt).
  • Set up breaks:  don’t just go out there and rake the entire back yard.  Pace yourself with some breaks every 20 minutes to half hour.  You can expand the time as you get used to the work.
  • Stretch before you begin:  warming your body up is always a good idea before any physical activity.
  • Drink lots of water:  as you start moving your body will start cleaning itself up.
Drinking lots of water will help keep you well hydrated.
  • Wear loose comfortable clothing:  over dressing for the occasion can make you sweat and get cold, or you may be restricted and hurt yourself.
  • Get the whole family involved:  why do all the work by yourself?  Family time can
also be work time.  This is great for teaching responsibility and building  relationships.
  • Make sure your body is up for the job:  it would be a good idea to be healthy before you begin.  So get your spine checked for body imbalance today.

The key to getting outside is to have some fun.  Do your work and remember to play a little.  Enjoy the sun, the air and time with people you love.
