This week, we also are starting a new feature to share helpful savings tips.

This week's savings tip

Our first tip centers around school supplies and stocking up on items you will most likely need to replace or replendish throughout the course of the school year. After two weeks of the kids being back in class and after parents have already fulfilled the traditional list, start watching the school supplies at places such as , and . Prices will be dropping fast as the stores try to clear out these sections and make room for Halloween displays.

When prices hit 70 to 80 percent off, this is when I always stock up on items such as Kleenex, crayons, pencils, markers, folders and backpacks. Since I have had to replace several backpacks over the course of the years due to ripped zippers or broken straps, I have gotten into the habit of trying to have extra (cheap) backpacks available and ready when needed.

If you have a savings tip you would like to share, please feel free to email me. You will receive credit for your idea.

Tatum, I was at the Blue Moose Dairy (I think that's what it's called) in Highland and their "kid" or "baby" cones were .50 ... if you have several kids, might be worth the drive. It is about 3 or 4 ounces, at a guess. And a half cup of ice cream is supposed to be a serving anyway.
