The Florence B. Dearing Museum's happy-faced scarecrow entry into the Hartland Heritage Day contest arrives from the basement of the Marshall Postal Museum.

After checking with her friend and curator, museum docent Hildy Foley brought the borrowed scarecrow to Hartland, and for the time being, the Marshall scarecrow is greeting and catching up with the locals of Hartland from his post on the front porch of the museum.

“So basically, that’s all he is,” said Foley, a Hartland former postmaster. “He’s on loan.”

How to vote

If you'd like to vote for the scarecrow on-loan in the heritage day scarecrow contest, you can vote at , the or email info@hartlandchamber.org or cmarlow@comaine.org. Votes must be received by Friday, Sept. 16. Winners will be announced around noon at the chamber Saturday, Sept. 17, on heritage day. Vote categories are: most interesting, most historic or most colorful.
