The women of the Hartland Home & Garden Club believe they found the perfect spot for its entry in the Hartland Heritage Day Scarecrow Contest — a nice spot to rest in a garden it maintains.

So, the club picked the gardens at the main branch of the Cromaine District Library, according to club member Anne Crimmins.
"We had the gardner reading a magazine," Crimmins said of their scarecrow who is also seated on a wrought iron bench nestled amongst the flowers, as if taking a quick break and enjoying her hard work of the day.
Crimmins credits several women in the group for their scarecrow that took about four hours to build and says they had a great time doing the contest.
"We'll do it again," Crimmins said. "It was just a fun club thing."

If you'd like to vote for the Hartland Home & Garden scarecrow in the heritage day scarecrow contest, you can vote at , the or email info@hartlandchamber.org or cmarlow@comaine.org. Votes must be received by Friday, Sept. 16. Winners will be announced around noon at the chamber Saturday, Sept. 17, on heritage day. Vote categories are: most interesting, most historic or most colorful.
