O'Malley's to Offer Spicer Hard Cider

Hartland businesses kick off collaboration with 7 p.m. tasting Saturday.

One of most popular homemade products — its Sweet Williams Hard Cider — now will be available at starting with a first-time tasting Saturday.

The 7 p.m. to midnight event will be on the covered patio at the Hartland restaurant, 1774 N. Old U.S. 23, that includes music by Brent Sanzone.

Under the collaboration, O'Malley's will be the only area restaurant to offer the hard cider outside of Spicer while the orchards will market the relationship at its winery.

"We are super excited," said Heather Spicer, the manager of the winery at the Hartland farm market and cider mill, adding the idea of the partnership happened one night recently while she and her husband Matt, a co-owner of the orchards, were at the pub for dinner, a place they routinely frequent.

"We know everyone at the pub."

The cider, which is produced, fermented, bottled and sold at Spicer Orchards, has been on the market for about three years, Spicer said. The farm market and cider has been making about 1,500 gallons a year. It comes three flavors — original, cherry and reserve — and three sizes: 22-ounce, 64-ounce and half-gallon growlers.

"It's our signature," she said, adding their cider is lighter and sweeter than common brands.

Rebecca Oginski, O'Malley's manager, said the restaurant will sell the 22-ounce bottle and it makes a great match for an English cider the pub already offers.

"It's yummy," said Oginski, especially of the cherry flavor.

She said she hopes this will be one of many new partnerships with Hartland area businesses.

"We're just trying to bring more local businesses in our business," she said.
