Theme of entry: Soccer Scarecrow

The biggest challenge for Laura Fiebernitz of Yarmak & Co. and the Boys Varsity soccer team when making their soccer player scarecrow was his uniform and how to stuff a scarecrow wearing shorts.

“So, finally we got some sweats,” Fiebernitz said. “We were sweating it though. How are we going to make this stay, how are we going to make this stand. It was so much fun though.”

Fiebernitz, whose son plays on the Hartland soccer team, said that the group putting the scarecrow together wanted to be creative and had ideas of posing the scarecrow in a kicking motion.

“Not building one before, we were like OK, how can we get his leg to stay back, like he’s kicking a ball,” Fiebernitz said laughing. “And then we were like, OK, let’s just get it to stand.”

Yarmak & Co. and the soccer team may have decided that for the first year, they would take baby steps with their Hertiage Day entry, but Fiebernitz also admitted that they are already getting ideas for next year’s contest.

“Looking around," she said. "I’m like, hmm … for next year.”
