Here is Friday's edition of "Good morning Hartland" — five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful every morning  Monday through Friday. Always included (we hope) is a video from someone wishing every one "good morning" as part of a message to our community. See video at right.

1. The weather

We're under a flash flood watch until 11 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Meantime, showers and thunderstorms remain on the radar for the day, mostly before 10 a.m. The high will be near 87. Chance of rain is 90 percent. Friday night will be mostly clear with a low of around 64.

Sunny skies return for the weekend with highs of 87 on Saturday and 88 on Sunday and overnight lows in the mid 60s. A chance of rain returns Sunday night.

2. Fuel prices

  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.81 at the Sunoco Station at Owen Road and U.S. 23.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.75 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd, in Green Oak Township.

3. Township Hall Follow-Up

The Hartland Township Board of Trustees approved correcting the assessment roll Wednesday for about a dozen parcels in a tax district  set up to pay for sewer construction.

Township officials said the change was necessary in SAD 4 after finding that sewer capacities on some parcels were in error during an audit of the system. But some property owners have vowed to fight the change before the Michigan Tax Tribunal.

4. Travel soccer team with Hartland players at national tournament evens record

The Michigan Hawks defeated the Mustang Blast 2-0 from California to even its record at 1-1 Thursday in U.S. Youth Soccer national championships in Phoenix, according to results on the tournament's website.

Kaylee Phillips and Chaylynne McNitt of Hartland are two of four Livingston County soccer players competing on U16 team. The squad plays 8 a.m. mountain time Friday against the Dallas Texans. The team's record over the three games will determine if it advances in the tournament.

5. Hartland trivia

Congrats to Linda Bowen for being the first to correctly answer Rizor Nature Sanctuary for the name of the preserve in Parshallville.
