Good Morning Hartland (8-9-11)

Hi, Hartland. Today is Tuesday. Here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining. And remember always included in this Monday through Friday feature is a video (at right) from someone wishing every one "good morning" as part of a message to our community.

1. The weather

Expect rain today (90 percent chance) with scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service. High will be around 83. Winds gusts could reach 22 miles per hour. Lows overnight will be around 60 degrees with a 30 percent chance of more rain.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com

  • : $3.69
  • : $3.79 ($3.69 — cash only)
  • : $3.98
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.59 at 10 area stations, including four at Owen Road and U.S. 23
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.68 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd, in Green Oak Township.

3. Congrats to Triathlon Finishers

At least two women from Hartland — Terra Bulloch and Patricia Hansen — finished Sunday's women's only triathlon in Howell. (There could be more since our community is divided up into five ZIP codes. Please feel free to add your name and time in comments).

Bulloch, 38, was 13th, finishing in a time of 1:19:46 while Hansen, 44, completed the race in 1:52:45. Karen McKeachie of Ann Arbor won the race in 1:10:11.

The half-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and three-mile run was part of the trekwomen triathlon series that is featuring six events across the country.

4. Hartland athlete repeats as athlete of the year

Soon-to-be Hartland High School junior Avery Evenson was named Livingston County's athlete of the year for the second year in a row Sunday by the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

But this time she shared the award with Fowerville's Adam Coon. Both were all-state in three sports as sophomores — Evenson in swimming, cross-country and track and Coon in football, wrestling and shot put, the article said.

Congrats to Stefanie Furge for answering Monday's question — the Black Sheep Weavers Fiber Guild continues Hartland's tradition of weaving.
