Happy middle of the week. Here are our five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful on a daily basis before 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.

1. The weather

Today (Thursday) is going to be the hottest day of the week/year with temperatures reaching 96 degrees and the heat index well more than 100, according to the National Weather Service. That means an excessive heat warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. and we remain under an air quality alert. Temperatures will begin to drop Friday as we also will have a 20 percent chance of rain.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com

  • : $3.79
  • : $3.89 ($3.79 — cash only)
  • : $3.98
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.72 at Speedway, BP and Sunoco ($3.69 — cash only) at Owen Road and U.S. 23.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.73 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd, in Green Oak Township.

3. Live Music at Hartland coffee houses

Beat the heat while hearing some music. William Billington, singer, guitarist songwriter, performs Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Kahuna Coffee as part of a weekly concert series. His repertoire spans the rock era, with music from the 1960s through today. For more information, click .

R.J. Pierce, who plays progressive acoustic guitar playing and is known for integrated tapping, will perform from 7-9 p.m. at . For more information, click .

4. Swim at the Caroselli Aquatic & Fitness Center

Here's Thursday's schedule for the pool at : 

  • 7:30-9 a.m. adult open swim/laps (six lanes)
  • 9:15-noon swim lessons
  • noon-1 p.m. adult open swim/laps (six lanes)
  • 1-2:30 p.m. competitive clinics
  • 2:30-4 p.m. open swim/laps
  • 7:30-9 p.m. open swim/laps

Open swim is $5. Adult open swim is $3.75/$3.25 for seniors. Lap swimming is $4. Annual memberships also are available.

5. Hartland trivia

Congratulations to Jacqi Schaller who correctly answered Wednesday's question that the museum recently reopened in the village area of Hartland is named for Florence B. Dearing, a former longtime librarian of Cromaine District Library.
