Good Morning Hartland (9-21-11)

Happy midweek, Hartland. It's Wednesday and here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

We hope you enjoy the third of a few "Good Morning Hartland" messages we recorded during Hartland Heritage Day on Saturday.

1. The weather

Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms, otherwise partly sunny with a high near 73 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. It'll be more windy than Tuesday with a south southwest wind between 13 and 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of rain is 40 percent. Tonight, there will be party cloudy skies with a low of around 50.

  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.55 at seven stations that include three at Owen Road and U.S 23.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.52 at Costco at 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd in Green Oak Township.

3. High School to hold 'Back-to-School Night' for parents

parents can meet with teachers and administrators from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday in a "Back-to-School Night" to learn about the courses their child is taking and what's expected, according to an email reminder about the event to parents from Principal Chuck Hughes.

The meeting provides an opportunity to set up a time to meet with staff to discuss individual concerns, the email said. A few teachers who have scheduling conflicts will have their course syllabus and class rules available for review, it said.

Hughes also will deliver an annual report after the sessions conclude in the main lobby. 

4. Global bio company sets up shop in Hartland

A company that specializes in biological crop protection and natural bumblebee pollination has moved to Hartland, acccording to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

The business, 1502 Old U.S. 23, is a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Koppert Biological Systems BV, the article said. The firm employs about 40, but there are opportunities available in production, management, sales and administration. Resumes can be sent to info@koppertonline.com, according to the article.
