It's the Monday that's Columbus Day. Here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

Please also check out our video greeting (at right) from the fourth grade at as they wish everyone "good morning" as part of a special surprise Happy Birthday message to Principal Bill Cain who is turning 50 today. A Hartland High School graduate, Cain has been with the district for 25 years, serving as a teacher, coach, high school assistant principal, athletic director and principal at Village for 10 years.

3. Hartland school board meets

The Hartland Board of Education holds a 6:30 p.m. meeting Monday in the board room at the , 9525 Highland Rd.

4. Hartland Glen hosts college golf event

University of Detroit Mercy won the Detroit Titans Fall Classic that was held over the weekend at , according to an article in the Detroit Free Press.

Sophomore Lindsey Lammers shot a school-record 67 for the Titans, which finished at 590. Lammers tied with Oakland University's Elizabeth Ecker for medalist honors at 140, forcing a playoff won by Ecker.

Overall, Oakland was runner-up five shots back.

5. Hartland trivia
