Michigan National Guard Deployment Rises, Jobless Rate Falls and Salvation Army Funding in Jeopardy

Here are five big stories that occurred around Hartland this week.

1. Two men were arrested and arraigned this week on open murder charges in connection to the death of a Lyon Township man, the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus reported.

2. The Salvation Army of Livingston County, based in Howell, is concerned over the possibility of losing over $130,000 in state funding, according to a report from WHMI-FM (93.5). 

3. More than 100 locally-owned Michigan businesses showcased their products on Wednesday at the Making it in Michigan trade show at the Lansing Center, according to a report from the Lansing State Journal.

4. The Michigan jobless rate fell from 11.2 in August to 11.1 in September, according to an article from the Lansing State Journal. A year ago, the jobless rate was at 11.9, according to the Labor Department. 

5. Approximately 2,000 Michigan-based National Guard members will be deployed in 2011, according to an article from Ann Arbor.com. That will be the largest contingent deployed from the state of Michigan since 2005, according to the report.
