Painted Chairs to Help Raise Money for LEGACY Program

From ocean scenes to garden flowers, LEGACY students are spending their summer break transforming donated chairs into works of art.

The community service project is sponsored by Hartland Schools and the Michigan Works Youth Program, according to LEGACY teacher Cyndi Ernst, along with several other opportunities for local students.

"A number of Legacy students are completing on-line courses to make up credit and working to earn money and learn job skills at the HESSC Building," Ernst said in an email. "One student has been placed in the office to learn secretarial skills while others work with Mr. Schultz who is mentoring them in building and repair trades."

The student-painted chairs will be available for purchase on the Hartland LEGACY website and at the holiday craft fair, if supplies last.

The money will be used to fund further summer projects. The students also are working in the Green School Garden, doing cleaning/painting in designated rooms and recycling.
