On the Agenda: School Board Starts Week that Runs Up to Memorial Day Celebrations 

Baseball, softball teams play for conference titles Monday at home.

This is a busy week in Hartland as the community prepares for one of the biggest events of the year — the 76th Annual Memorial Day Celebration one week from today.

The events over the weekend include:

  • the 7 p.m. lighting of luminaries Sunday, May 29, at .
  • a 7-11 a.m. pancake breakfast Monday, May 30, at .
  • a 10K/5K run and 3K walk that will be held from 10-11:15 a.m. Monday, May 30, starting from the field house.
  • the 10 a.m. grand re-opening of the Florence B. Dearing Museum on Monday, May 30. The museum will be open for several hours on the holiday.
  • the noon Monday, May 30, parade.

Meetingwise, the Hartland Board of Education meets 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Hartland Educational Support Service Center, 9525 E. Highland Road. The agenda includes an expected decision on whom the board supports for filling two seats on the Livingston Educational Service Agency, which is the county's intermediate school district.

There are three candidates: incumbent Board Vice President LuAnn Loy of Genoa Township, Donald Cortez of Marion Township and Michael Yenshaw of Oceola Township.

Here are some other events or helpful notes this week that might catch your eye:

  • A for elected officials is being held Tuesday at Waldenwoods Resort & Conference Center, 2975 N. Old U.S. 23. The event, organized by the Hartland, Brighton and Howell area chambers of commerce, is open to the public, although reservations are requested at info@hartlandchamber.org or 810-632-9130.
  • The Hartland Township Planning Commission canceled its 7 p.m. Thursday meeting at Township Hall.

Also home varsity sport events include:

  • 4 p.m. Monday baseball plays for the Lakes Conference championship against Walled Lake Central.
  • 4 p.m. Monday softball plays for the Lakes Conference championship against Walled Lake Northern.
  • 7 p.m. Monday girls soccer plays against Walled Lake Northern
  • 3 p.m. Thursday boys golf plays against Milford.
