With a total of 629 votes cast, Kroger received 54 percent of the votes with an ending total of 342. Devon Savic, the floral manager at the Hartland Kroger says she is honored by the award.

Customer service, she believes is one of the reason why her floral department was chosen, as well as price.

Hartland Patch reader with the user name “NotLazy” supported that thought with her comment left on the story.

“I'm partial to Krogers,” the reader wrote. “Their prices are very reasonable, (as are Meijer's) and the selection is pretty good. Meijer's is just a little more difficult to park at and not as easy to get in and out of the store. Hartland was too expensive for me.”

The most popular items being sold in the floral department at the Hartland Kroger are Alstromeria’s, a form of lilies.

“It lasts at least two weeks and it goes with everything,” Savic said.

For Mother’s Day coming up, however, hanging plants will be the biggest seller along with roses and balloons which is usually what kids pick out for mom, according to Savic.

The outdoor items and hanging plants will be set out on May 10, in time for Mother’s Day selections to begin.

Although they are the smallest department in the store, Savic says her department is also able to do weddings, funerals, anniversaries as well as corsages and boutonnieres.

“Almost every wedding that we’ve done, it’s been the, “I trust you, go ahead,”” Savic said. “It’s been fun. I’ve been very honored.”

Thanking the community for their support, Savic says she is happy Kroger’s was chosen but not really surprised.

“As far as for an everyday basis,” she said. “I’m not surprised on that.”
