Weekend Planner: Local Fundraisers, Drive-in Movie and 'Anything Goes' Highlight Our List

Check out what's happening in the greater Hartland area this weekend.

It’s Friday and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend — there's plenty of offerings in and around Hartland from arts to movies and a back-to-school promotion. But even more importantly, this weekend features several ways to give back to the community while have fun.

Here are our picks:

1. CHARITY EVENTS

When/where: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, 1241 N Duck Lake Rd, Highland.

Why go: Former Red Wings and Detroit Tigers along with actors Jeff Daniels and Dave Coulier will take on local police and firefighters in a softball tournament to raise money for local charities, including Team Kendal Kidz and Camp Quality — both of which have ties in Hartland. In addition to the games, there will be bounce houses and kids activities. Ted Lindsay will also be signing autographs at 2 p.m.

Price: Advance tickets are $10 per person; cost is $15 per person at the door and all children under 10 are admitted free of charge.

When/where: 7:30 a.m. Sunday at , 9600 Crouse Rd.

Why go: Support the Livingston County Land Conservancy's effort to to repay the loans for purchasing land for the Round Lake of Hartland Nature Preserve.

Price: $40.

When/where: 2-8 p.m. Sunday at , 12400 Highland Rd.

Why go: Support the Hartland High School boys basketball program.

Price: $65.

When/where: Dusk (8:51 p.m.) Friday at the main branch of the Cromaine District Library, 3688 Hartland Rd.

Why go: See a family animated movie on a big screen in Hartland. This week it's Rango.

Price: Best part of all — free.

When/where: 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Huron Valley Council for the Arts, 205 W. Livingston Rd, in Highland.

Why go: Check out the art of Hartland artist Pam O'Neil during an opening evening for a monthlong show. The gala features light refreshments and piano music by Gary Weisenburg.

Price: Zero, zip, nada.

When/Where: 6-9 p.m. Friday at Green Oak Village Place, in Green Oak Township.

Why go: School might still be a month away, but it's never too soon to start preparing, and having fun doing it! You and your kids can enjoy music, food and activities amongst Green Oak Village Place’s beautiful park-like setting.

Pricing: Free.

When/where: 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and Aug. 11-14, , 14197 Torrey Rd, in Fenton. 2 p.m. matinee shows Sunday and Aug. 14.

Why go: Fenton Village Players brings Broadway "closer" with Anything Goes, which is currently being performed in New York City.

Price: Adults $15, students $13, children $8.
