Genoa Township to See Road Millage on November Ballot

With the projected population growth in Genoa Charter Township expected to hit more than 20,000 residents by 2020, the Genoa Township Board has approved a resolution to place a proposal for a township wide road millage on the November 5 ballot. 

Realizing that the existing rural roadway system throughout the township are "not sufficient to meet the transportation needs of its residents" the proposed road millage is in response to the 65 percent of survey respondents who said they supported additional taxes to improve and maintain roads, according to the township's website.

Voters will be asked to approve a 15 year, 1.5 mill increase to fund a number of road improvement projects throughout the Township. If the proposal is approved, a home with a market value of $200,000 and a State Equalized Value (SEV) of $100,000 would pay $150 per year.

A township map, available from the Genoa Townshipwebsite, indicates where these improvements would take place and the proposed Road Improvement Master Plan includes project descriptions and cost estimates for the proposed work.

On September 30, Township officials will host a Road Millage Open House from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Genoa Township Hall located at 2911 Dorr Road, Brighton.
