Arts & Greens Artists Market Blends Tried and True with Something New!

A
blend of traditions and a new one in the making, the eighth annual Arts &
Greens Holiday Artist Market takes place Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24,
at Bogie Lake Greenhouses, 1525 Bogie Lake Road in White Lake.

Huron
Valley Council for the Arts & Bogie Lake Greenhouses co-host the event; new
this year is the  Maria
Moore Quester ' s
gingerbread house building area. A traditional element that is popular every
year, is the “Tuba Christmas” concert. And, as always, there is art.

“This
free art and fine craft market has become a holiday tradition for many Oakland
County residents,” added Ohmer. “With thousands of original hand-crafted art and
fine craft pieces created by some of the region’s best artists, this event is a
wonderful start to the holiday season.”

She
explained that one of the chief attractions over the years has been the
climate-controlled greenhouses, which house the event, allowing guests to
comfortably “shop the artist booths nestled between festive displays of
poinsettias and other holiday greens, one of the most unique settings for an art
and fine craft market in all of Michigan.”

Events
take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

In
keeping with the educational mission of HVCA, said Ohmer, many of the artists
will demonstrate how they create their artwork; in addition, “children of all
ages can enjoy weaving baskets at the Basket Sampler booth and trying their hand
at fiber felting in the Back to Back Fibers booth.” The talented Bogie Lake
Greenhouses staff will conduct free holiday greens building classes, “teaching
visitors the fine touch for making that perfect table centerpiece or festive
holiday decoration.

Besides
the opportunity to purchase unique hand-crafted gifts, visitors have the
opportunity to hear live music ranging from the popular Huron Valley Community
Chorus as well as perennial favorite “Tuba Christmas” and local bands.

 “Michigan
authors from around the region will be on hand all weekend to sign books and
speak to fans about the passion behind their work,” Ohmer added.

 She
said the combination of these events and the atmosphere at Bogie Lake Greenhouse
makes it a holiday art market like no other.

 “If
you have not experienced Arts & Greens, you have been missing one of the
area’s most enchanting events of the holiday season, with something for everyone
to enjoy this is truly a the area’s best holiday artist market,” she
added.
