Community Corner

Humane Society Fundraiser

Come to the Humane Society of Livingston County's Feline FUN-raiser to help make cage-free cat rooms possible for the organization's adoptable pets.

The event takes place Saturday, July 16 from noon–3 p.m. at the shelter, located at 2464 Dorr Road in Howell and allows you to adopt a pet, donate or learn more to help feline friends.

Activities include:

  • “Happy Place” shelter tours
  • Ask the Vet
  • Kids' crafts and face painting
  • Fun food and bake sale
  • Adoption specials
  • Games, raffles and more

All proceeds from this event will go toward our Campaign for Cats, a special project to add cage-free, community cat rooms to our existing shelter where small groups of cats will share the benefits of natural sunlight, outdoor views, and healthy activity.

The new cat rooms will provide more “feline friendly” options that maximize quality of life and minimize stress for our adoptable cats while reducing expenses for our shelter and increasing the number of adoptions.

Some of the expected benefits for this project include:

  • Cats will be less stressed, happier and less likely to become sick.
  • Adopters will be able to interact with the felines in a more natural, comfortable environment and see more of their true personality resulting in increased adoptions.
  • Cleaning the cage-free cat rooms instead of individual cages will be faster and reduce expenses.
  • Healthier cats will also mean less money spent on veterinary work and medicine.
  • Finally, healthier, happier cats will lead to more successful adoptions.

This event is designed to help in raising the last third of the funds needed to break ground on the project, matching funds already donated by a generous Livingston County resident who was an animal lover and long time supporter of the HSLC.

To help make this project a reality, please consider a donation. Call or stop by our shelter to donate, or visit our Campaign for Cats website to learn more and donate securely on line: http://www.humane-livingston.org/campaignforcats/index.htm.
