Hartland American Legion Poppy Sale

Hartland's American Legion Post is distributing poppies made by disabled veterans today to raise money for its youth and community programs.

Post members will be handing them out from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at , 10059 E. Highland Rd and , 10073 E. Highland Rd both days and , 11050 E. Highland Rd. Kroger and CVS are at the Shops at Waldewoods plaza at the corner of M-59 and Old U.S. 23 while PNC Bank is east of U.S. 23.

Doug Kuhn, post commander, says the poppies' significance dates back to World War I; soldiers marveled at their ability to bloom in the devastated no man's land areas between the entrenched armies in Europe. As a result, the flowers became a popular symbol of remembrance after the conflict.
