Hartland Community Garden Seeks Volunteers, Supplies

Helping to feed the hungry in Livingston County, volunteers and gardeners from the Livingston County Hunger Council(LCHC) are busy preparing and planting 12 local community gardens this spring, including a new location in the Hartland area.

Previous gardens that are continuing again this year are located throughout the Howell, Brighton and Fenton areas, and each location is looking for supplies and volunteers to help weed, plant and harvest the crops that has already helped reduce the hunger gap by over 5 million meals, according to a press release from the LCHC.

Volunteers are also needed to help drive the produce from Gleaners to a wide variety of places in the county.

"Because there is increased produce from the expanded gardens, there are more opportunities to share food with additional organizations in Livingston County," Kay Simmons, Community Garden Coordinator, said in a press release.
