Hartland Township Makes Hunting Expedition Possible for Local Injured Veteran

Hartland Township and South Lyon, Mi.-based Operation Injured Soldiers teamed up to make it possible for a local veteran to do what many of us may take for granted – hunt on opening day of waterfowl season.

Brighton resident Jamie Gorm, an avid outdoorsman and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan who served six tours of duty, was accompanied by Operation Injured Soldiers volunteers on Sunday, Sept. 1 as he took part in opening day for goose hunting.  The veteran and his guides were granted exclusive hunting rights on Hartland Township-owned property (southwest corner of M-59 and Pleasant Valley Road) from Sept. 1 through Sept. 15 for this purpose.  Gorm and the team from Operation Injured Soldiers hunted on the property for nearly six hours.

“We are all volunteers at Operation Injured Soldiers,” explains Howell resident David Patterson who approached the Township to request the hunting rights.  “For many local veterans, simple pleasures like hunting and fishing are no longer possible without assistance due to their injuries.  Our volunteers work to make outings like these available to injured soldiers by providing guides, assistance and – in this case – partnering with land owners to make the hunt possible.”
