Holiday Fundraiser to Support Single Mom Fighting Cancer

Kahuna Coffee's annual holiday fundraiser will go towards giving Erin Mead and her two children a special Christmas.

A single mother of two battling stage 4 Synovial Sarcoma will be the recipient of this year's Kahuna Coffee ornament fundraiser in Hartland.

Two years ago, Erin Mead was a hardworking, popular preschool teacher at Garden Gate Montessori when she was diagnosed with the rare form of cancer.

Six weeks into her treatments, Mead decided to leave her position to focus on her health and her two children, Nick and Peyton.

"I have been lucky to remain stable and enjoy each day with my children," Mead said. "This has been the hardest thing my family has ever gone through and the uncertainty is overwhelming at times. In the darkest times we are still blessed."

For three years, the local coffee shop has raised money through donated, handmade wooden ornaments with helping to give a deserving family a merrier holiday season.

"There is always something to be thankful for," Mead said. "I am so thankful for every day that I get to spend with my children. I would be ever so grateful to give my kids an amazing Christmas and a special day full of memories."

Ornaments to support the Mead family will be on sale at Kahuna Coffee starting Nov. 22 through Dec. 20.
