"We should set a record this year," said Joe Barendse, market manager for Walmart stores on the west side of Detroit.

The One-Hour Guarantee is a Black Friday event that guarantees customers select items during a one hour period. Customers who are in designated lines between 6 and 7 p.m. or 8 and 9 p.m. on Thursday can purchase the items at special low prices with confidence that they'll get the item that night or before Christmas.

New process to make Black Friday shopping easier

Walmart will use a new system this year to make shopping easier. For the first time in all stores, customers can secure a wristband and shop for other gifts throughout the store on Thursday until the 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. events start. Learn more about the wristband and how to get one. Walmart is also bringing back this year its online store map and mobile app that show where each Black Friday sale item is available. Read more.

Another bonus is Walmart's price matching.

"We'll match any competitor's ad even on Black Friday sale items," said Aaron Quimby, store manage of Novi's Walmart.

That includes ads from now through Christmas, he said. Customers will be redeemed for the price difference with a Walmart gift card.
