Bridge Players Encourage New Faces and Say 'Good Morning, Hartland!'

It's Thursday and here are some tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

More partly sunny skies are expected with a high near 37 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will be out of the west southwest between 6 and 8 miles per hour. Tonight, more clouds roll in with a low of around 31 as winds pickup slightly to between 9 and 13 mph.

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • : $3.59
  • Shell: $3.65
  • Mobil: $3.69 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.41 at BP.
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.49 at four stations: the Clark at N LeRoy and Third, the Marathon at N LeRoy and Glenwood, the Marathon at Silver Lake and Lincoln and the Mobil at N LeRoy and S Long Lake.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.34 at Costco at 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.

3. Jobs available in Hartland School District

Child care assistants, food service subs and bus drivers are needed in the Hartland School District, according to the January edition of Community Life.

Full-time openings are available for the child care assistants and are needed at the district's state-licensed child care center. Those interested can contact Linda Easton at 810-626-2780 or lindaeaston@hartlandschools.us.

Food service applicants can fill out an application at between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or call 810-626-2868 for more information.

Regular and subsitute bus driver positions are available by contacting the district's transportation department at 810-626-2175.

4. Oceola Township woman earns UM degree 52 years after start

Oceola Township resident Susan Kack, 70, received her bachelor's degree in English in December 52 years after first trying in 1959, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

5. Hartland trivia

Kudos to Tammy Chinn for correctly answering — James Grubb, Melvin Hibner, Sheldon Latourette, Mark J. Hill and Kress Townley all served together doing what? Answer: They all served as part of the first school board in consolidated district in 1921.
