Happy Friday. Here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

Looks like a nice day ahead with sunny skies and a high near 51, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, it'll be mostly clear, with a low around 30 degrees.

On Saturday, more sun and a high near 50. A south southeast wind between 7 and 13 mph is predicted with gusts as high as 20 mph. Saturday night, it's expected to be party cloudy with a low around 35.

On Sunday, it'll be warmer and more breezy. The high will be near 60 under mostly sunny skies. Winds are predicted to be between 11 and 20 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph. Sunday night, clouds return with a low of around 46.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • : $3.39
  • Mobil: $3.49 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Shell: $3.54
  • Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.32 at Citgo.
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.29 at eight stations including four on Owen Road at U.S. 23.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.32 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.

3. Daylight savings time leaves Sunday

Don't forget this Sunday we all get an extra hour of sleep as clocks will be adjusted at 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. as we move back to standard time. I can't wait.

4. Document shredding available Saturday

Livingston County residents can shred personal documents from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Recycle Livingston in Howell. There is a $3 gate fee is for nonmembers. Residents can dispose of up to three boxes for no additional charge and $1 per box thereafter. Details: (517) 548-4439.

5. Hartland trivia

Congrats to Linda Bowen for getting yesterday's question correct — In 1932, Jerry and James Brian were the first to achieve what high honor? Answer: They were Hartland's first Eagle Scouts.

Friday's question: Hartland pioneer William Kinney was the first to do what? Hint: This important duty is no longer performed in Hartland and is called something else. Think answer in comments.
