Area Residents Wish Our Community a Happy Thanksgiving and Say "Good Morning, Hartland!"

Happy Thanksgiving. Here are some tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

Patchy fog is expected before 10 a.m., otherwise there should be cloudy skies with a high near 48 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. A southwest wind should blow between 11 and 15 miles per hour with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight, the clouds remain with temperatures staying at about 47. Great for Black Friday shoppers! AND … sunny weather should arrive on Friday with a high near 58 and stronger winds. We're getting spoiled with this warm weather, aren't we? (Knock on wood).

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

• Mobil: $3.28 (cash is 10 cents lower)
• Shell: $3.39
• Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.12 at Citgo.
• Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.09 at six stations including three on Owen at U.S. 23.
• Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.14 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.

4. Charyl Stockwell focused on community involvement

We like to recognize and spread the word about how people are helping people in the community. Here's a news release from the Hartland-based Charyl Stockwell Academy District that details several efforts this holiday season.

"Students in the Charyl Stockwell Academy District are actively helping out in the community this holiday season with the goal of making a difference in the lives of families in need in Livingston County.

• At , the elementary campus, the Spirit Club has organized a school-wide food drive and is collecting through early December. The food drive will immediately be followed by a toy drive. All the food and toys collected will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank.
• Over several weeks, middle school students and the parent council at the Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy (CSPA) secondary campus collected all the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner. Twelve families, which include 37 children, received one to two large baskets of food and a large turkey in time for the holiday.
• Students at CSPA High School are working with the Salvation Army to fill stockings with 'stuffers' such as crayons, matchbox cars, small toys that will be presented to families in time for Christmas.
• The National Honor Society at CSPA High School is sponsoring a Giving Tree: for new socks, gloves and hats to assist the Connection Youth Services in Howell. 

'As we support our students and foster their moral and character development, we're interested in extending beyond the classroom walls. Children want to be helpful and involved and it's wonderful for them to know that their efforts can make a difference in their communities,' said Amanda Ricketts, Director of Student Services."
