Good Morning Hartland — Veterans Day Edition

It's Friday and Veterans Day — an important time to honor those who have served our country. Here are some tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

Scattered snow showers before 7 a.m. otherwise partly sunny with a high near 42 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. West winds are predicted between 10 and 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Tonight, it'll be mostly cloudy with a low of around 33 as winds shift slight to out of out the south southwest between 10 and 15 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Weather will warm on Saturday (hooray!) under mostly sunny skies and a high of near 56. Winds should be out of the southwest between 9 and 16 mph with gusts as high as 23 mph. Some clouds roll in on Saturday night with a low of about 46. Winds stay about the same as during the day.

On Sunday, clouds remain and there will be a 40 percent chance of rain and a high near 57. Winds will pickup to about 18 to 28 mph with gusts as high as 39 mph. Sunday night, the chance of rain will drop slightly to 30 percent as temps dip to about 43.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • : $3.52
  • Shell: $3.59
  • Mobil: $3.65 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.43 at Citgo.
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.38 at the Marathon station at N LeRoy and Glenwood.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.41 at Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd.

3. Veterans Day specials

From Olive Garden to Chili's, Veterans and active duty military qualify for many discounts and free food at more than a dozen national chain, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

The Opera House in downtown Howell is hosting a 130th anniversary celebration acoustic concert 7 p.m. Friday.

Entertainment includes a musical variety show and features Music Doing Good, Inc., formerly Divas World Production of Houston, Texas.

5. Hartland trivia

Congrats to Stefanie Furge for getting Thursday's question correct — What's the average temperature for Nov. 10 (+/- 2 degrees)? Answer: Our answer was 47, according to the Weather Underground. But as Stefanie pointed out, Accuweather says 49 degrees and Fox 2 news Detroit reported 51.
