HoneyBaked Ham Workers Say Happy New Year and 'Good Morning, Hartland!'

Check out the weather, fuel prices and more for Dec. 29, 2011.

It's Thursday and here are some tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

Please also don't miss our video greeting (at right) from two workers at the HoneyBaked Ham Holiday Store in Hartland, which is open daily Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The store then doesn't reopen until right before Easter. For hours, call 313-274-1594.

1. The weather

Look for snow showers after 9 a.m. that turns to rain after 1 p.m. as temperatures rise to about 37 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall accumulation is expected to be less than a half inch. Winds will be out of the south at about 14 miles per hour with gusts as high as 21 mph. Tonight, more rain and snow is possible (30 percent chance) as temps fall to around 30. Winds moderate slightly to between 9 and 11 mph out of the west southwest.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • : $3.29
  • Mobil: $3.39 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Shell: $3.45
  • Lowest price at Hickory Ridge and M-59 in Highland: $3.23 at Citgo.
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.24 at four stations, including three at Owen Road at U.S. 23.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.23 at Citgo at E Grand River and O'Doherty.

3. Hockey team advances in holiday tournament

The Hartland High School hockey team defeated host Traverse City West 3-2 on Wednesday in double overtime Wednesday to advance in a holiday tournament, according to the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

Ryan Daavettila scored the winning goal 13 seconds into the second overtime, the article said.

The Eagles now skate 6:15 p.m. Thursday against Toledo St. Johns, which defeated Saginaw Heritage 6-0, according to the website for the Centre Ice Arena where the games are being played.

4. Hartland area man talks about rights of biological fathers in Channel 7 report

Hartland area man Daniel Quinn — who has been battling for more than three years to see his 5-year-old daughter Maeleigh and has became an advocate to change Michigan's law concerning the rights of biological fathers — was featured in a recent WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) report.

5. Hartland trivia

Congrats to Tom Schroeder for correctly answering — What group was formed in 1975 and later published Tyrone Revisited? Answer: The Tyrone Township Historical Society.
